West Lake & He Fang Street!

Hangzhou prides itself on being the most beautiful city in China. One thing that certainly adds to its beauty is West Lake. The Chinese LOVE West Lake. In fact, Hangzhou is where most Chinese come for their honey moon because West Lake is so pretty and such a romantic spot. Hangzhou is comparable to New York in the sense it has just about the same amount of people and probably just as many cars, taxis, and buildings, but one major difference is that the streets of Hangzhou are spotless. When I visited New York to dance at the Broadway Dance Center, I was shocked at how much garbage was on the streets. The government of China takes villagers from the surrounding areas of Hangzhou and pays them to come into the city to clean. They wear bright blue jump suits and big straw hats, I call them the smurfs! They are EVERYWHERE! I have yet to see one piece of trash on a street or sidewalk, let alone see anyone litter. Tiffany, Erin, and I have visited West Lake a few times, it is a great place to find some good food and lots of fun things to do with the locals. At night there are always people with these crazy instruments and old ladies that sing traditional chinese opera and loads of people just dancing and having a good time, it is so much fun! In the morning at West Lake you can find HUNDREDS of people doing yoga and tai chi as the sun comes up, it is quite the sight to see! He Fang street is another chinese tourist attraction. It has alot of old statues and cool stuff you can take pictures with. There is a hall way that branches off of He Fang street that is loaded with little carts where you can buy barbequed frogs, duck head, chicken feet, or fried scorpions. We found some noodles and called it good. Tiff and Erin later tried duck head and duck heart, they said it was good but I dont dare try!

1st time at West Lake!

Sounds like you're having an awesome time, Lis! And it looks like the kind of place I'd want to spend some time, too; it's definitely something different, that's for sure. I imagine the lake is a thousand times better in person. Maybe one of these days....

By the way, I was quite pleased to find out you started a blog! As family and a fellow blogger, it was an exciting revelation for me, and at least until September, you can count me as a regular reader. :-D

I don't know how many people you want reading it, but I would love to link to your blog on mine, as well, with your approval. I'm not sure how easily you can respond to a blog comment in China (my friend in Beijing can't because it's blocked), but my email's on my Facebook.

Have fun out there!

nate! go for it, i wish i knew how to do the same, im not the best at this whole blog thing so i hope you get this! i will get better at my blog in time..and yes youre right the pictures do not do this place justice but at the same time they kinda glamorize the situation here because i do not put the pictures of the poverty and not so goodliving conditions up.

Sweet! I added the link to my blog, and have a post scheduled to announce it tomorrow (haha, I enjoy calling reader attention to anything I add to my sidebar :-P). It's pretty simple to do; on your dashboard, click "Layout" and it'll give you a page with some options for how your site can look. Then click "Add a Page Element," and from there it's pretty much just clicking on whatever you want to add (in our case, "Link List" is the way to go).

It does get easier with time; if you need any help with anything, I'm an email away. :-)

the pictures do not do this place justice but at the same time they kinda glamorize the situation here because i do not put the pictures of the poverty and not so goodliving conditions up.

They had me fooled! Is it pretty bad over there?
